Have a nice sleep last night even on a cement hard ground with a machine gun guarding my tent. Last night i did not cook rice for dinner, just made do with an instant noodle and hot coffee,so i am cooking a pot of rice to be eaten on the road with a can of black bean fish on top. This is something new i am trying out, normally i cooked dinner when i arrived at the campsite and left some for tomorrow breakfast. I made a request to stay with Warmshower in Tauranga last night, and happy to receive a positive reply from Philips and Helen. So i started to roll out at 8.30am,feeling motivated and happy as the sunny weather up the sky. Have to go on SH2 although this road is considered a nightmare for cyclists with the heavy traffic, especially dangerous are those truck drivers speeding their way through the narrow road, luckily there is some 5-6 ft road shoulder to ride on but one should never goes out to the road proper, there have been cases where cyclists were killed. Riding with a bright jacket and a rear mirror will definitely help save your life.At about 30km mark while resting by the roadside, saw a couple touring cyclists travelling on the same direction,I flagged them down and we have some chat, they were from Germany ,started in Waihi Beach this morning and also plan to stay in Tauranga,we rode together for a few kilometers, then I decided to stop for my packed lunch, while they continued on their journey ahead. Another rest stop in Katikati to cool off from the heat, guess this was the hottest day since arriving in NZ.There wasn't many roadside huts, bus stops,or roofs to take shelter from the burning sun, especially the long steep roller coaster. To avoid getting into the city,I took a side road to Waihi road with a nice bike path to Welcome Bay and a few more climbs to arrive at the door step of my Warmshower home of Philips and Helen for a nice hot shower and a delicious home cooked dinner of baked chicken with vegetables.

Breakfast b4 leaving Waihi. The rice with "tou si yu" black bean fish is for lunch on the road

Next town is Katikati

Today might be the hottest day

Approaching Katikati

Katikati

Katikati

Katikati Fire Station

Nice Carving

And the story about the carving

Katikati street art

Piano right on the street

And its in working condition, but unfortunately I have no knowledge on it

I will...I will...I will...

Birds watching just not my cup of tea

Not hard to imagine how strong the wind is blowing, by looking at the trees wall

While resting by the roadside ,2 touring cyclists coming up

They are from Germany (sorry can't recall the names),started in Waihi Beach going the same direction to Tauranga like me

We rode together for some km....

They are fast and i'm struggling to keep pace with them

And soon I lost sight of them....

Better to keep your own pace and enjoy my lunch break by the road side

Super hot day with cloudless sky
Approaching Te Puna, too small a town you won't realise when you passed it
Now  coming up to a city of Tauranga

Exit from SH2 to Waihi road with a dedicated bike path

Welcome Bay

Welcome Bay

To a cosy Warmshower home

  2. Before i pass the price list to you, you must have asked for it,right? On whether to get or not to get a recumbent, just follow your heart, recumbent is not for just any tom dick and harry,it's for those who really know how to appreciate, be patience in discovering the beauty in its uniqueness.
