Riding out of Dunedin was tough as I mentioned previously the city is surrounded by mountains.Knowing that I have to tackle a big hill,so my strategy is to take it easy starting quite late at 11am after a big breakfast. Getting on SH1 is impossible on bike so I left with no other option to go on the North East valley road as recommended by the local cyclist. The climb is tough but manageable and a nice descent to Waitati to merge with SH1 again. My plan changed again when I saw a signboard indication a scenic coastal road with sea view, I wonder whether it was a wise decision as there wasn't any notable scenery except the view of the sea over many many hills slope, and surprisingly there is a railway track running here servicing small town of Warrington,Seacliff and fast downhill to Karitane to merge with SH1 again. Shortly I saw a picnic area and stopping for some bread and coffee, but it ended up as my camp for tonight as the place is just ideal for a quiet night with river view.
